“The Decline of Constructor Barkhatov” is a cartoon, based on the ‘reassembly’ of the old films from one of the Ural plants using computer special effects and flash animation. The protagonist is constructor Barkhatov — a Superman, destined to deal with the “enemies of the working people.” If the first part of the film it looks like a slightly ‘twisted’ propaganda documentary of the Soviet years, the second part, like in any comic book, plunges the viewer into an alternative reality populated with the resuscitated ghosts from the “Crocodile” soviet satirical magazine: parasites, alcoholics, abstractionists and ‘other dissidents’. In the end the storyline comes to an unexpected queer denouement.
