The work “Flags” was created as part of Detlef Schlaghek’s curator project "The Walk". Two Russian artists — Vladimir Seleznev and Andrei Syailev, a Syrian musician Momen Shavish and the project curator Detlef Schlaghek spent four days in Germany, talking about Syria, Russia, war and peace. Along the way Vladimir and Andrei found out how certain words are translated into Arabic, and Momen learned how the same words sounded in Russian. Afterwards, remembering the poem by Rimbaud “Vowels”, starting with the lines:

A — is black, white — is E, U — is green, O — is blue,

I — is red ... I want to reveal the birth of vowels.

I decided to create a project based on the words used in conversation during that walk.
